Loaves and Fish!
When is a dollar more than a dollar and less than a dollar at the same time?
When you help Lutheran City Ministries feed the poor and homeless through its association with Gleaners Community Food
Bank.
Michigan Income Tax allows a 50% tax credit for contributions made to qualifying homeless shelters and food banks.
Gleaners is a qualifying food bank. Your donation for food is made out to Gleaners Community Food Bank, but mailed to
Luheran City Ministries. Lutheran City Ministries forwards the donation to Gleaners where it is creditied to the Lutheran
City Ministries account for food only.
If you went to the store and spent $1 buying food for the hungry, you would get maybe 2 cans of corn. Your dollar stays
a dollar.
If you donated that same $1 to Gleaners through Lutheran City Ministries, Lutheran City Ministries would recieve 4 cans
of corn from Gleaners. In effect, the $1 has become $2. At tax time you recieve 50 cents off your taxes.
So is your dollar a dollar? Two dollars? Or just 50 cents. It may be confusing, but the simple part is that
it ALL begins with your generosity.

Housing Happenings
Lutheran City Ministries, Inc. has helped form 2 non-profit housing and community development corporations to provide
affrodable housing in Detroit.
The success of these projects has been compiled into a template to help launch other successful projects. Currently,
